To beach or not to beach…(for my more visual readers…)

May 19, 2014 By Bekah

Bennett went to the beach for the first time this weekend: cuteness ensued.

Really, though?

What is this beautiful place, dad?

Beach naps with Granddad are the best!
After a day full of fun in the sun and sands of Destin, Steven and I got ready for my first night away from Bennett.  I made it about 20 minutes into the night without pulling out my phone to show off some of these photos to Steven’s new colleagues.  Thankfully, all of the women I met were mothers (with boys, nonetheless), so they all got it.  We started at Graffiti and the Funky Blues shack for a few welcome cocktails and headed to the pier to watch the sunset and eat dinner with Slalom colleagues and husbands/wives.  Unfortunately, I don’t have any photos from either night out.  I think I was attempting to stay away from my phone in order to stop thinking about my little sleepy guy.  I did get this photo from his Nana during dinner…it helped!
Playing with Granddad!

The next morning, I woke up about 5:30 and walked back over to Nana, Granddad, and Bennett.  Then, we went to breakfast at Another Broken Egg in Baytown. Bennett showed his true colors:

That’s right, I’m a ladies man!

Mommy LOVES her little boy!

…even when he cries!

When we returned to the condo, we swiftly headed out to the beach.  Bennett was feeling a little under the weather, so we didn’t make it very long outside before we both headed back inside for a quick nap (and call to our pediatrician).

I stayed with him until he went to sleep and then met Steven for our last night of Slalom’s Hi8us, which was a delicious dinner on the beach, cocktails, and a bonfire.  I didn’t realize how much I missed Steven.  Oddly enough, I have seen him more, but our time spent together has become very different than it was B.B. (Before Bennett).  I really loved laughing with him and spending much needed time together.
After a lazy morning and lunch at Cantina Laredo, we made our way back home…but not before a little playtime with Nana.

It was SUCH a fun weekend.  I couldn’t believe how truly happy each of the Slalom employees are to work for the company.  Nearly all of them discussed how the work-family balance is much improved from their time at larger consulting companies.   I have enjoyed each of Steven’s work related functions; Accenture put on some amazing events.  We’ve gone to Zoo Atlanta, The High Museum, and The World of Coke, and each have been over the top and incredibly memorable.  Still, there was something that felt really intimate about this weekend.  Instead of sitting at a table of strangers, I felt like I was with long time friends.  I look forward to many more Hi8us weekends to come and growing in relationship with the people I met this weekend.
Bennett and I are already looking forward to our next beach trip, which is coming up very soon.  For now, we may nap all day to recuperate from the weekend’s many activities!
Too tuckered out for tummy time!
